All aboard the La Bella bus
AS the nation celebrates Carers Week so too does local home care package provider, La Bella Life.
Clients are invited to bring their carers along on the Big La Bella Bus free of charge next week to acknowledge the work and dedication of those who care for loved ones at home.
La Bella Life managing director Cherieanne Carmichael said it’s an important week on the calendar to recognise all the tireless work done behind closed doors by carers.
“So much of the work family and friends do to support loved ones as they age is not seen. We so often hear from families who have been caring for their aging families and they’re exhausted,” Ms Carmichael said.
“They often agree they wouldn’t have it any other way to be acting as the carers and that’s why we appreciate them and their efforts so much.
“As much as our home care packages are for the clients, they’re also for the carers and support network around these people to provide respite and relief.”
Unfortunately, carer burnout happens far too often and while it’s through no fault of the carer or the elderly person, sometimes the task just gets to be too much to bear alone.
“We encourage everyone over 65 years of age to get an aged care assessment and see what assistance they may be eligible for,” urged Ms Carmichael.
“Statistics show that by seeking help and getting respite to support the carer, it is more likely that the carer will continue to offer support and continue in a care giving role.
“At La Bella Life we understand that each caring role is different and that carers often feel a sense of satisfaction as caring is a meaningful way for a family member or friend to show their love and support for the person they’re caring for…knowing that you are making a positive difference can be very rewarding.”
La Bella Life invites clients to book a trip and bring their carers free of charge to join the Big La Bella Bus during Carers Week.
The bus will take a scenic trip to Camperdown, leaving Flagstaff Hill at 11am next Tuesday, October 17 and Thursday, October 19.
