Anzac Day services return
AFTER three years of disruptions due to COVID-19, the Warrnambool RSL’s traditional Anzac Day services will return this month.

Next Tuesday’s march will commence at 10.45am, with participants travelling from Lava Street down Liebig Street to the Warrnambool War Memorial for a service at 11am.
The highlight of this year’s march will be the inclusion of a number of restored military vehicles from the Military Vehicles Restoration Club in Ballarat.
There will be a dawn service at 5.45am with a focus on returning to the tradition of dawn services and the sacrifices made by the Anzacs at Gallipoli.
This year’s service will feature a special twist – and the RSL recommends you bring a torch.
The RSL is also returning to the tradition of the Anzac morning breakfast. A gold coin donation will be appreciated, with veterans dining for free.
Motorists are also advised of the following road closures, which will take place from 5am until 2pm, next Tuesday: Cannon Hill from Liebig Street to Cannon Hill; Merri Street from Gillies Street to Banyan Street, and Liebig Street from Smith Avenue to Cannon Hill. Liebig Street, from Lava Street to Merri Street, will be closed from 10am-11am.
For further information on this year’s Anzac Day events contact Anthony Geyer (RSL Warrnambool) on 0448 306 449.
The Dennington Community Association Anzac Day service will be held at 9am. To ensure the safety of the participants and the community, temporary changes to traffic conditions and vehicle access will be implemented in Dennington.
The Esplanade from Drummond Street to Princes Highway will be closed from 8.30am until 10am. For further information contact John Harris, president of the Dennington Community Association on 0417 338 688.
Anzac Day services will be held at various locations across the district. Early morning services will include a 6am service at the Hawkesdale Memorial Hall (followed by sausages and a cuppa), a 6.30am dawn service at the warm memorial in Yambuk (followed by a barbecue) and a 6.30am service at Railway Place in Port Fairy (followed by a gunfire breakfast at the RSL hall).
Additional services and wreath laying ceremonies will take place at 9am at the Ellerslie monument; 10.30am at Port Fairy’s Railway Place war memorial and at 11am in Centre Park, Macarthur. Koroit will pay tribute with a 1pm service and wreath laying at the High Street war memorial (followed by tea/biscuits courtesy of the Scouts) and at 2pm a march will begin near the community hall in Panmure followed by a service and wreath laying.
