Brown to lead Hampden squad

SOUTH Warrnambool export Jonathan Brown will once again take the reins of the Bottle Greens’ under 23 interleague team this year.

The multiple Brisbane Lion premiership player will enter his fifth interleague campaign with the Hampden Football Netball League.

Hampden will take on Ballarat FNL at Reid Oval on Saturday, July 6.

Multiple Hampden League premiership coach Adam Dowie will be a part of the coaching staff against Ballarat.

Dowie will be joined by North Warrnambool coach Nathan Vardy, Hamilton Kangaroos coach Brad Thomas and Cobden coach Brody Mahoney.

Hampden League president Shane Threlfall said the league was thrilled to have Brown back on board, and it was “terrific” to have a high-quality support staff around him.

“We are looking forward to once again showcasing our league against Ballarat,” Threlfall said.

The Hampden Football Netball League has also announced the coaching staff of the under 19 female team and under 17 boys team.

Long-time South Warrnambool mentor Chris Meade will coach the Hampden Football Netball League’s very first female interleague team.

He will be assisted by Rooster’s under 18 coach Ryan Jones and Hamilton Kangaroo leader Pat Sherlock.

“Chris is a very experienced coach and he is the perfect man for the job,” Threlfall said.

“It is exciting to have a female interleague game, allowing our talented juniors to play at the next level against a quality team in Ballarat.”

The under 17 squad will be co-coached by Portland’s Justin Impey and Warrnambool’s Ben Parkinson.

The duo guided the league’s under 17 teams at the South West Junior Carnival in Portland earlier this season, with both teams making the grand final.

“Justin and Ben are very accomplished coaches and will guide the under 17 squad with great professionalism,” Threlfall said.

Match times are still to be confirmed, but it is anticipated the under 23 fixture will be a twilight encounter.
