Clubs share in over $58,000

NINETEEN local clubs and organisations will share in over $58,000 in Warrnambool City Council funding

By Staff Writer

The groups were successful in applying for a grant via the community development fund.

Since 1999 council has used the fund as a way of supporting local groups to make Warrnambool a vibrant and inclusive city for residents and visitors.

“Thank you to all of the groups who applied for funding this year,” Warrnambool mayor Ben Blain said.

“The community development fund is a way for council to give back to local groups and volunteers, and it’s encouraging to see such a wide range of projects put forward.

“From new toys at the toy library, to accessibility improvements at the gem club, a program at Warrnambool Table Tennis to better engage with women, girls and people with a disability, and there was also funding for a blister pack recycling initiative at Rotary Club of Warrnambool Daybreak – these are all things that add to the richness of the fabric of Warrnambool.

“We didn’t use our full allocation of funding this year, so we had the potential to provide even more support to local clubs and groups.”

Heading into next year, Cr Blain encouraged every local group to have a look at the criteria and think about how a grant of up to $5000 could help them.

“As you can see by the variety of projects funded, there’s a lot of freedom in the application criteria for clubs to choose a project that suits their needs, so we’d love to see even more applications next year.”

Grant categories include sport and recreation, culture and arts, as well as environment and sustainability.
