Community digs deep for others
CHRISTMAS was that little bit brighter for many families and young children across the district at Christmas thanks to the generosity of local shoppers.
In the true spirit of the festive season, Warrnambool locals and visitors to the town dug deep and donated just over seven trolley loads of toys and gifts for families in need.
“It was absolutely amazing to see the generosity of shoppers and visitors to the centre,” Gateway Plaza manager Sarah Porter said.
Having teamed up with local organisation, MacKillop Family Services, last month’s Christmas Gift Appeal encouraged shoppers to take a tag from the Christmas tree in the Plaza and purchase an age-appropriate gift before leaving both at centre management.
“The toys and gifts were just lovely,” Ms Porter said.
“Thanks to the generosity of the community, Christmas was special for many children and families who otherwise may have gone without.”
MacKillop Family Services in Warrnambool currently has up to 100 children in foster care at any given night throughout the year.
