Community spirit shines bright
IN a shining display of generosity and community spirit, the Leila Rose Foundation’s annual Christmas Ball raised an impressive $58,000.

Held last month, the ball proved a resounding success.
The event, a cornerstone of the foundation’s fundraising efforts, promises to make a significant impact on the lives of families coping with the challenges of rare childhood cancers.
Established in 2011 by Warrnambool’s Tracy and Andrew Chow, the Leila Rose Foundation stands as a beacon of hope for families navigating the difficult journey of childhood cancer.
The foundation’s inception was inspired by the heartbreaking loss of their daughter, Leila, who succumbed to a rare cancer at the tender age of 20 months.
The annual Christmas ball, a festive affair that brings the community together for a night of celebration and compassion, is the primary fundraiser for the foundation each year.
This year’s event has exceeded expectations, with the astounding sum of $58,000 raised.
The generosity displayed is a testament to the community’s unwavering commitment to supporting those facing the unique challenges posed by rare childhood cancers.
Tracy and Andrew Chow expressed their gratitude to the attendees and the local community for their overwhelming support.
“We are deeply moved by the outpouring of generosity from our community, given the challenges people are facing this year,” Ms Chow said.
“The funds raised at the Christmas ball will go a long way in supporting families dealing with the immense challenges of rare childhood cancers.”
Currently, the Leila Rose Foundation provides assistance to 62 families grappling with the emotional and financial burdens of childhood cancer.
It is estimated that approximately 300 children in Australia are diagnosed with rare childhood cancers each year, highlighting the critical need for ongoing support and advocacy.
Since its inception the Leila Rose Foundation has distributed a total of $1.2 million to 304 families.
The funds raised at the ball will play a crucial role in expanding the foundation’s reach and offering assistance to more families in need.
“Our goal is to one day be able to help all those families who are facing the devastating impact of rare childhood cancers. Every dollar raised brings us one step closer to that vision,” Andrew Chow said.
The Leila Rose Foundation extends heartfelt thanks to all those who attended the event and to the broader community, and the wonderful sponsors and volunteers for their continuous support in the mission to bring hope and assistance to families affected by rare childhood cancers.
