Creekers continue good form

RUSSELLS Creek continued its strong start to season 2023 with a solid 96-point win over Dennington at Mack Oval.

The Creekers dominated in the wet on Saturday, with Thomas Smith booting four majors for the game, while Jyran Chatfield and Lachlan Edwards showed agility and accuracy in front of goals to add three each. 

Final scores were Russells Creek 17.14.116 to Dennington 2.8.20. 

Best for the Creekers were Jyran Chatfield, Sam Alberts, Thomas Smith, Taylem Wason, Dean Finlayson and Dakin Morris. Jyah Chatfield, Dylan Herbertson and Caleb Thompson each chipped in with two goals, while Philip Chatfield added a single. 

In the reserves, the Creekers also had a great day out, enjoying a 100-point win over Dennington 15.17.107 to 1.1.7. Coaedin Carter chipped in four majors for the side to be named among the best, alongside team-mates Trent Clark, Lowell Hunter, Matthew Rook, Tyran Boyle and Bill Melican. 

Other goal scorers were Lucas MacKley and Matthew Rook (with two each), Tyran Boyle, Trent Clark, Lowell Hunter, Bill Melican, Corey Mifsud, Kyle Ryan and Lucas Wensley. 

Dennington’s under 18s were too strong for the home side, enjoying a comfortable 122-point victory, 17.23.125 to 0.3.3. Jaxon Keay, Jobe Kelson, Dakota Davidson, Joseph Douglas, Kye McKenna and Tylah Moana were among the best for the visitors while for the home side, best players were Ryan Murcott, Sam O’Connor, Kobi Chatfield, Billee Morgan, Ian Clark-Ugle and Tylah Greaves. 

A six-goal haul from Joseph Douglas helped Dennington on its way to victory. Douglas was well supported on the board by team-mates Rory Campbell-Gavin, Tremaine Clarke, Dakota Davidson and William Fogarty with two each, and Fletcher Mitchem, Tylah Moana and Lukas Phillips one each. 

In other round two senior football matches for the Warrnambool District league last weekend, Merrivale defeated Old Collegians by 183 points, Kolora Noorat defeated South Rovers by 55 points, 

Allansford enjoyed a two-goal win over Panmure and Nirranda defeated the Timboon Demons by 110 points. 

Tomorrow (Saturday) will see Dennington home to Kolora Noorat, South Rovers meet Old Collegians at Walter Oval, Merrivale will host Panmure, Timboon will travel to Mack Oval to face Russells Creek and Allansford will host Nirranda.
