Members of the Warrnambool and District Dance Club officially handed over a cheque to SWH community partnerships manager Suzan Morey on Wednesday afternoon.

“The money was raised by members attending our weekly dances at the Christ Church Hall,” club secretary Ken Cathie said.

“Each year we chose a local charity or organisation to donate to and this year we chose SWH.

“It’s a marvellous local facility that so many people benefit from. In the past, the hospital held annual balls for many years and several of our members enjoyed those, so this (donation) is a carry-on from that.”

Accepting the cheque on behalf of SWH, Ms Morey said the money would go towards a $20,700 MolecuLight the hospital was currently fundraising for.

“This equipment will be used by our wound management team in Warrnambool Community Health, and by surgical teams in our Warrnambool operating theatres,” Ms Morey said.

“This sophisticated medical equipment is a handheld imaging device that uses violet light to detect bacteria in wounds. Studies show that using this device can increase healing, reduce the need for antimicrobial dressings and decrease antibiotic usage.”
