Free festival fun
FAMILIES looking for some action-packed, free entertainment these school holidays should head to the Warrnambool Greyhound Racing Club.
The club’s seaside festival, which runs from December 28 through to January 6, not only features some of the best up-and-coming greyhounds in the country, but also a range of free rides, entertainment and a barbecue.
On festival day, there is also an opportunity for children to enter a free raffle to be a ‘trainer’ for the day.
This is a great opportunity for youngsters aged between four and 12 years to get up close to a racing greyhound and walk around to the starts with the dogs and officials.
Race days will be held on the following dates:
Thursday December 28 – this will feature jumping castles, cupcake decorating, science show, photo booth, face painting and Junior Handler of the Day.
Saturday December 30 – jumping castles, Colour Angel face painting, laser tag, fossil digging kits, Junior Handler of the Day.
Tuesday January 2 – jumping castles, Dan the Magic Man, Colour Angel, Junior Handler of the Day, pony rides.
Thursday January 4 - roving bookies, comedians, Wicked Wildlife, laser tag, jumping castles, cupcake decorating, face painting, junior handler.
Saturday January 6 – jumping castles, Colour Angel, silent disco, Junior Handler and pony rides.
As the racing winds down on January 6, INXS tribute band Inxsive will take to the stage, bringing all of INXS’s classics to life.
A reminder to all families that the bistro is open for dining and there is a free barbecue for kids.
“Each year the Summer Festival is a highlight for the greyhound industry,” Warrnambool Greyhound Racing Club general manager Craig Monigatti said.
“The races are full of up and coming stars who ply their trade on the track while the free entertainment keeps those young and young at heart fully entertained.
“The highlight for me is the chance for children to be junior handlers of the day when they put on high vis and help walk the racing greyhounds to the starts and get up close to our wonderful animals”.
The greyhound racing club can be found at 331 Koroit Street, Warrnambool.
