Free green waste disposal
MOYNE Shire residents are encouraged to clean up around their homes before the summer fire season – and take advantage of free green waste disposal this weekend.
Residents will be able to dispose of lawn clippings, branches and vegetation for free as part of the Shire’s summer fire preparedness program.
Following on from three weeks of free green waste disposal after September’s storm, council is offering another free drop off across the shire this weekend, November 25-26.
Moyne Shire mayor Ian Smith said now is the time to reduce fuel loads around homes.
“The CFA recommend reduction of flammable vegetation around a house. This significantly increases the likelihood of house survival by minimising the impact of radiant heat and ember attack during a bushfire,” Cr Smith said.
“This is a great chance to clear up the garden without waste facility fees, before the hot weather kicks in.”
Green waste can be disposed of at no charge this weekend at several Moyne Shire transfer stations including Killarney (this Sunday between 10am-4pm).
Conditions apply, including no mixed loads (green garden waste only); limbs and branches up to 30cm in diameter; no commercial operators or commercial loads accepted; and trucks will not be permitted.
Residents with questions relating to green waste disposal can call council on 1300 65 65 64 or visit www.moyne.vic.gov.au/tips.
