Grand finals this weekend

RUSSELLS Creek has earned a spot in this weekend’s Premier grade grand final after winning a nail-biter over top side Nestles last weekend.

Russells Creek took the semi-final win by just one run in the action-packed Warrnambool Moyne and District Association match at Purnim.

The Creek won the toss and elected to bat, reaching 10/124 in the 57th over.

Lower order batsman Emmanuel Coomaraswamy was among the best with the bat for his side, making 22 from 44 deliveries, while team-mate Rukshan Weerasinghe added a handy 21.

In reply, Nestles fell one run short of victory, reaching 10/123 in the 51st over with Wil Hinkley (32) top scoring.

Russells Creek’s Craig Britten 4/39 and Heshan De Silva 4/38 were best with the ball.

Russells Creek will now face Northern Raiders in this weekend’s Premier division grand final showdown after the Raiders defeated Dennington at Mortlake’s DC Farran Oval.

Northern Raiders won the toss last Saturday and elected to bat, reaching 10/133 after 71 overs (Jack Burnham 35 and Jake Louth 25 the highest scorers), while Dennington was contained to 10/94 (Sanjaya Fernando 24 and Farooq Qureshi 20 the best of the batsmen).

In the Championship division, Noorat Terang (9/239) defeated Mortlake (10/100).

The Lions’ Liam Geary proved a strong force with the bat, making 82 from 113 deliveries (five boundaries and two sixes) and was well supported by team-mate Isaac Kenna (unbeaten on 53).

Mortlake’s Max Slater contributed an unbeaten 40 while Neil Kelly was best with the ball, taking 4/69.

The Lions will take on Allansford Panmure in this weekend’s grand final after the Gators defeated Merrivale.
