Great tribute to a great man

NOT even Sunday’s cool and overcast weather could dampen the spirits of the large crowd that gathered to honour and celebrate the life of local ‘legend’ Clinton Hall.

For the second year, Hally’s Run/Walk was again a huge success, with just over 300 participants turning out at Lake Pertobe on Sunday to take part in the event.

Described as a “great man, athlete and devoted dad who was loyal to friends and family” Clinton sadly passed away suddenly at home on July 26, 2022 at the age of 43.

The annual run/walk, instigated last year by Clinton’s best mate Jake Rhodes, raises funds for his three children along with an annual South West Sport ‘Clinton Hall Excellence in Sport’ award.

“The event was again a huge success and we were thrilled with the number of participants, which was on par with the inaugural event last year,” Jake said.

“It’s great to see the community get behind this, to show their support for Clinton’s family and to honour his memory.

“He (Clinton) was a great bloke who was admired and respected by many. He was a true athlete, a premiership player with the South Warrnambool footy club, a former president at Dennington and was always happy to give back to the community.”

While money raised on the day will, in part, go towards school fees, sporting and other costs for his children, funds will also be used for the Excellence in Sport award in conjunction with South West Sport.

“Last year we were able to present four award participants with money towards sporting costs and I’m confident that will happen again as a result of last weekend’s event,” Jake said.

Entrants last Sunday chose to run or walk either a three or six kilometre course and raffles and spot prizes also formed part of the day’s celebrations.

Results from the event were as follows:

Six kilometre:

Women – 1st Harriet Aggett 24.52, 2nd Rylee Foreman 26.31, 3rd Alicia Boyd 27.11.

Men – 1st Tommy Hynes 20.48, 2nd Jackson Coates 21.09, 3rd Ben Kilday and Sam Edney 22.32.

Three kilometre:

Men – 1st Archie Hollow 10.30, 2nd Jarrod Gleeson 10.55, 3rd Colby Jackson 10.56.

Women – 1st Molly McNeil 11.33, 2nd Ester Gleeson 11.50, 3rd Zara Hampton 13.10.
