Koori Karnival this weekend
FOR a taste of culture and some great family-friendly entertainment, head to the Warrnambool Showgrounds this weekend for the inaugural Koori Karnival.

The Karnival, which will run from 10am until 4pm tomorrow (Saturday), is a free community event ‘by Mob for Mob’ and will include amusements, live music, blak markets, food, cultural activities and more.
“The idea of the Karnival is to bring Mob together for a fun day out,” health promotion coordinator with Kirrae Health Services, Thalia Robertson-Wilson said.
“The Koori Karnival is sponsored by The Koori Way, a state-wide population health promotion campaign tackling indigenous smoking and is led by Aboriginal community-controlled health organisations across Victoria,” Ms Robertson-Wilson said.
“The Koori Way aims to improve the health of aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people by reducing nicotine usage through population health promotion activities like the Koori Karnival.
“The Karnival will be a nicotine-free space, encouraging mob to live, work and play in smoke free places.”
The Karnival will be presented by the Koori Way, Dhauwurd Wurrung Elderly and Community Health Service, Kirrae Health Service Inc, Winda-Mara Aboriginal Corporation and the Gunditjmara Aboriginal Cooperative.
