Liebig Street shoppers entertained
LIEBIG Street shoppers were pleasantly surprised when they were treated to some live music last Friday afternoon.
Members of the Warrnambool Ukulele Group spent two hours playing some “older music” and then finishing with some Christmas favourites.
Group member Anne Rea said passers-by were “absolutely thrilled” to hear music and song as they shopped.
“You can just see the smiles on faces as people walked by; it was very rewarding,” Ms Rea said.
“We have about 40 members and it was lovely that several of them were able to come along and join in on Friday.”
The Warrnambool Ukulele Group is an active one in the community, making regularly appearances at each of Warrnambool’s four nursing homes throughout the year, along with special performances at several community events including the Warrnambool Show and the Koroit Irish Festival.
“We do get quite a few requests to perform so we do as much as we can,” Ms Rea said.
“We also had the chance to put a donation tin out last Friday and shoppers were very generous; we raised just over $100 which will be donated to Food Share – a very worthy charity, especially at this time of year.”
New members are always welcome to join the group, which meets each Monday evening at The
Flying Horse for a meal and practice.
“And if anyone is in the bistro at the time and is celebrating a birthday, we also go out and sing to them which is a lot of fun.”
