Lions’ assistance continues
COMMUNITY assistance remains at the fore in all of our district Lions Clubs.
This is acerbated by the present financial climate and programs such as meals-on-wheels, elderly care and Lion assistance to the elderly and the needy.
Many other programs are continuing despite the approaching festive and new year periods.
Port Fairy-Belfast Lions have donated an endowment grant of $500 to each of their two schools to assist with their end of year recognition of student scholarship and achievement.
An afternoon tea was held at Belfast House with Lion Makka entertaining with guitar and song.
Another afternoon is being planned for Belfast and Moyneyana homes for the elderly and often lonely residents.
The club is also busy arranging its festive season activities which raise the funds necessary to assist their community and humanitarian efforts, such as their usual Christmas hamper raffles and their 38th annual art show to be held from December 28 to January 6.
A public opening night will be held on December 27.
The January market day events such as crayfish spins, Devonshire teas, and Australia Day breakfast will continue.
Koroit’s big moment is fast approaching with the opening of its barbecue shelter and rail trail facilities on Saturday.
Their efforts in the former railway precinct are to be commended.
Koroit and MacArthur lions clubs are both planning special occasions to mark 50 years of service to their communities and would be delighted to hear from any past members Warrnambool Lions Club have completed a very successful and rewarding year with their eye health programs in schools and despite being busy with other community activities are already scheduling their in-school program for next year with a number of district schools indicating their willingness to be involved in this wonderful save sight program.
Warrnambool, as with other clubs, are now selling their famous Lions Christmas cakes and puddings which raise funds for Health and Welfare programs, especially eye health.
Members will man a facility at Gateway Plaza to not only sell cakes but to provide information about other Loin activities, so why not stop by and say hello.
At the district zone meeting last week local clubs commented favourably on the coverage of Lions club activities given by this newspaper.
