Lions to celebrate 50 years

BOTH the Koroit and Macarthur Lions clubs celebrate their golden anniversaries this year.

By Staff Writer

Koroit will host an anniversary dinner on February 24, 2024.

Both clubs are eager to hear from previous Lions members or their families who would like to help share the memories and friendships resulting from 50 years of valued service to their communities.

Koroit Lions have a busy schedule over the next few months.

In addition to the pending opening of their barbecue and shelter at the railway precinct, they will hold their annual art show in November and their op shop operation involves 400-500 volunteer hours a month from both Lions and non-Lion volunteers.

Another very special occasion for the club will be hosting the visit of the Lexus Melbourne Cup on October 6 for which they are organising a happy, festive occasion for their community and district.

Port Fairy-Belfast Lions Club will also host a special occasion on October 24 when it provides a luncheon for the Classic Triumph Car teams.

It is anticipated 50 plus cars will tour their town and district, spending the morning in Port Fairy before moving on to Warrnambool for an organised show.

The horrific earthquake that devastated Morocco, killing 2000 and injuring 2000 more, has resulted in many clubs accepting donations, with the Lions Club International Foundation providing a $100,000 major catastrophe grant and a $10,000 emergency grant as immediate aid to the affected areas.

The International Foundation and our own Australian Lions Foundation are renowned for their immediate response to disasters and emergencies in both providing financial and physical assistance.

Every cent raised by those foundations is directed to the emergency areas for which they were donated.
