Local skaters shine
ATHLETES from Warrnambool’s roller derby team, TRV, showed great skills at the recent state-wide stampede in Geelong.
Although the side wasn’t in contention for a place this year, it did send some athletes for the modified contact round.
These rounds are a stepping stone for up-and-coming players to full contact play – and showcase the derby players of tomorrow.
Once again local athletes performed well with their team (black) winning a nail-bitingly close game with a score of 266-254.
Chloe (Cheapskate) took out the MVP jammer award and made the final few laps, collecting points that pulled black team ahead.
Kirsty (Lady Killington) also brought home an MVP blocker with some amazing chest catches.
Michelle (Eviloffspring) also displayed phenomenal blocking skills.
A reminder to all skaters that tonight (Friday) is Roller Polooza at the Warrnambool Showgrounds – band night (until 11pm), with a skate session from 7pm-8pm.
Tonight’s event is a family-friendly one, with skate hire, snacks and drinks available. Tickets at the door. All welcome.
