Visitors to the COO-EE celebrations tomorrow will have the chance to view some colourful and creative items at the Blak markets.

The shed, at Railway Place, will host ‘COO-EE!’ from 10am until 2pm.

Moyne mayor Cr Ian Smith said NAIDOC Week provides an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories.

“We’re pleased to work together with local Indigenous and disability organisations to recognise and celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders peoples,” Cr Smith said.

“There will be a great range of activities planned for COO-EE, including a welcome and smoking ceremony, and live music from Uncle Kutcha Edwards and Uncle David Arden.

“There will also be dancing and didgeridoo playing, along with the chance to learn about artifacts and history with Uncle Rob Lowe.”

Visitors will be able to browse the Blak markets, which will feature art and crafts from local Indigenous creatives, enjoy authentic bush tucker as well as children’s and community activities.

This year’s NAIDOC theme celebrates the enduring spirit of Indigenous communities, urging solidarity and amplifying voices long unheard to ‘keep the fire burning.’

The fire symbolises the resilience of Indigenous cultures, passed down through generations despite adversity.

It embodies the connection to the land, to one another, and to the diverse traditions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

‘Blak, Loud and Proud’ embodies an unapologetic celebration of Indigenous identity, empowering First Nations people to assert their place in the modern world.

This theme invites all Australians to listen, learn and engage in meaningful dialogue, fostering a society that values and respects Indigenous wisdom and contributions.

Tomorrow’s event is supported by Yidaki Support Services and Wellways Australia in conjunction with the Moyne Shire Council.
