David Bartlett and his team of volunteers are looking forward to this weekend’s Orford Vintage Rally.

When it comes to all things vintage, the rally has become renowned across the district and beyond for its interesting display of engines, tractors, trucks, cars, motorcycles, tools, machinery and collectables.

According to organiser David Bartlett and his team of volunteers, this year’s event – to be staged tomorrow (Saturday) and Sunday – looks set to once again be a crowd pleaser.

“The Orford Vintage Rally has earned a reputation for its extensive exhibits and attractions,” David said.

“We really do have something for everyone; whether you’re interested in old tractors and machinery or beaut utes you’ll find it here.”

Blade shearing was first introduced to the rally last year and was such a success that it will again feature on this weekend’s program.

“There’s something about blade shearing that’s fascinating and people will have the chance at various times over the weekend to watch the experts in action and perhaps also have a try themselves,” David said.

Another feature will be an interesting range of vintage tillage machinery.

This will include a “plough from the turn of the century”, an old diverter plough, spud scufflers and old horrows.

A model boat pond has also been set up and will no doubt cause great interest, and members of the Hamilton Re-enactment Society will keep visitors entertained as they re-create the history, customs and fighting techniques of the Medieval period with demonstrations from around 10am each day.

Last year the event attracted a crowd of more than 1000 and organisers are hopeful to see just as many this weekend.

“The weather is looking fine and this setting here at Orford is magnificent and many people comment on it while they’re here. It’s a beautiful, peaceful bush setting and the perfect location for a vintage rally.”

A small entry fee is charged for adults (with those under 16 admitted free) and catering will be provided on-site.

Due to limited internet reception in the area, the event is strictly cash only.

Gates open around 9am both days.
