Pirates hold top spot
HEADING into the short Christmas break, Port Fairy currently sits on top of the Warrnambool and District Cricket Association division one leaderboard.
With eight wins and just two losses to date, the Pirates are looking in good form with five rounds remaining before finals.
Last weekend saw the Pirates host Wesley Yambuk at Southcombe Park.
The Beavers won the toss and elected to bat first but struggled to make any major impact on the scoreboard, finishing their 45 overs at 8/127.
Middle-order batsman Jason Mungean was unbeaten on 47 while openers Jethro Serle (19) and Zavier Mungean (20) were other contributors.
Port Fairy bowler Alexander Jennings was effective, taking 4/20 off his nine overs.
In reply, the Pirates made 3/128 by the 33rd over which included an unbeaten knock of 52 from opener Alastair Templeton and a strong 41 from Max Green.
Vice-captain Alexander Jennings added 19 runs.
