Port in top four

A FORFEIT has seen Port Fairy leap into fourth on the Orford and District Table Tennis Association ladder.

By Staff Writer

The team moved above both Glengleeson (who hold the best figures outside the four) and Myndarra.

Both Warrnambool Vikings and Warrnambool Warriors remain undefeated and won’t meet until the last week of the first round.

Results from week five were as follows:

Warrnambool Vikings defeated Tarrone 10.32-1.1.

Tarrone’s David Warhurst was their winner when he defeated Vikings’ Dom 11-9, 9-11, 11-3, 7-11 and 11-6.

Tarrone lost a doubles in a five game rubber, while David also lost another in five games to Tess 11-7, 9-11, 7-11, 11-6 and 8-11.

Tess and Rehan both won their three rubbers for Warrnambool Vikings.

Warrnambool Warriors defeated Glengleeson 10.32-1.6.

The Warriors won three of the four extended rubbers.

Glengleeson’s Mark Murray, playing in three of them, finally broke through for a win against Warriors’ David Cranwell, 11-4, 9-11, 11-5, 7-11 and 11-9.

Several games were also extended.

Darren Smith and Peter Owen (Warriors) won their three rubbers.

Orford lost to Attunga 1.7-10.30.

The scores may look one-sided but the score sheet is littered with close games, won by Attunga.

Val and Kelly Wortley won their three rubbers for Attunga while Russell Hussey was Orford’s winner when he defeated Ian Wortley.

Port Fairy received a forfeit from Myndarra.

Week six predictions:

Warrnambool Vikings will cut Glengleeson’s percentage down this week.

After all other games are played, Warrnambool Warriors will take on Attunga – bring out the tough lights, long life batteries and the toothpicks to hold eyes open because these two teams believe in long games, long rubbers and long points.

It is anticipated the result will be 6-5 Warriors way.

Port Fairy has the stronger players to defeat all but Tarrone’s David Warhurst, which should guarantee them the four points.

Myndarra will be firing on all cylinders and will be too strong for Orford.

Un-official ladder: Warrnambool Vikings 20, Warrnambool Warriors 20, Attunga 12, Port Fairy 8, Glengleeson 8, Myndarra 8, Orford 4, Tarrone 0.
