Repair Cafe to open in Warrnambool

IN response to community demand, a Repair Café will launch in Warrnambool this weekend.

By Staff Writer

The inaugural Warrnambool Repair Café will open its doors to the public tomorrow (Saturday).

“We are excited to bring people together for a sustainable future,” project manager Brenda O’Connor said.

“If you have something broken and want it fixed, bring it along to our free repair café events where volunteers will repair, reuse and renew household items such as bicycles, clothing, garden tools, toys, furniture and more.”

Repair skills on offer this weekend include the following:

Clothing repairs – including taking up hems and mending holes.

Jewellery – broken clasps, shorten chains, fix missing links.

Mechanical – items such as lawn mowers and sprinklers.

Electrical items – including stereos, lamps and mix masters.

Bikes – wonky wheels, screeching brakes and puncture repairs.

Wooden items – including household items or furniture that need fixing or gluing.

“If you can carry it in the door our repairers are always up for a challenge,” Ms O’Connor said.

“The future of the café will be determined by community interest, passion and feedback from our events.

“Repairers and volunteers are always welcome to come and go as they please.”

Repair Café is a worldwide movement that encourages people to repair and reuse items rather than discarding them.

This helps extend the lifespan of products, reduce waste and lower the environmental impact of consumption.

The Warrnambool Repair Café can be found at the Merrivale Football Netball Club rooms in Merrivale Drive, Warrnambool.

Tea, coffee and treats will be available for a gold coin donation.

The repair café will be open from 10am until 12 noon, with the next session scheduled for Sunday, June 23.
