Rolling success for juniors
SEVEN talented juniors from Warrnambool performed well at last weekend’s roller derby in Mildura.
The group competed strongly in the Border Clash boot camps and tournament. Border Clash is a massive two-day event for juniors, hosted by the Mildura Roller Derby League.
The event attracted 110 players from around Australia who came together for training opportunities before launching into a two-day tournament.
Thanks to a Sports and Recreation Victoria Grant, the Warrnambool club was able to send seven members as well as volunteer coaches, NSOs and referees.
Liddle Menace, Ella-Mental and Sassy Pixie competed in level two modified contact as part of the Small Stars team.
Smasha so Fierce, Sassinator Sophie, Pivotal Moment and Dark Elf took to the track in level three, full contact, forming part of the Shooting Stars team.
Competition was extremely fierce, especially on day one with teams playing one game each.
Shooting stars went down to the RRDL Raiders 249-59 and Small Stars lost to RRDLs Rollin Raiders 96-214.
On day two, teams played two games each and brought home the win in all games they played.
The scores were: Small Stars defeated RRDL Rad Raiders 152-151.
Small Stars defeated MRDL Cheshire Cats 185-70.
Shooting Stars defeated RRDL Rockin Raiders 141-100.
Shooting Stars defeated Southern Stars 147-101. Sassinator Sophie and Pivotal Moment both took home a coaches’ award.
