Rotarians encourage recycling
THE Rotary Club of Warrnambool Central is encouraging all racegoers to place empty cans and recyclable bottles in the designated bins trackside.
The May Racing Carnival is an ideal opportunity for the club to raise some vital funds which, in turn, will benefit the local community and beyond.
“We have placed 40 bins at various locations around the venue and they are all clearly marked for recycling,” Rotary Club of Warrnambool Central environment director Tony Davis said.
“We’re encouraging everyone who attends the carnival over the three days to please place all their empty cans and recyclable drink containers in these bins.
“And please don’t crush your cans because for every can or container (uncrushed) we collect we will receive 10 cents which really adds up to a considerable sum.”
Mr Davis said the money raised from the collection of the drink containers and cans will be put to good use through various projects supported by Rotary.
“All money raised is greatly appreciated and always put to good use. We run community raffles, fund students to attend the annual National Youth Science Forum and also help ensure communities in Papua New Guinea have access to clean water.
“These are just a small handful of the many projects we undertake and support and it’s through community support and donations that we are able to continue this great work.”
Mr Davis said not only will the recycling project at the May Racing Carnival be an important fundraiser, it will also help to ensure these containers don’t end up in landfill.
