Selwood at Camperdown Cup
GEELONG football legend Joel Selwood will be among the special guests at January’s Camperdown Cup.
The Camperdown Turf Club is looking to repeat the success of last January’s Cup with another top day planned for 2024.
Club president Anthony Finn said on the back of being selected as a finalist in the 2023 Country Cup of The Year for the 2023 meeting, the volunteer committee was keen to ensure that 2024 was another great day for the local community and all who attend the races.
“We have set about ensuring that we continue to provide an event that is attractive for people to attend and part of that for 2024 is securing Joel Selwood and some of his football colleagues from Geelong,” Finn said.
“Joel and his colleagues will play an integral part in hosting duties and the punters club and will mix with patrons in the Mounting Yard Marquee on Cup Day.”
Finn said the club was thrilled to secure someone with the reputation of Selwood, especially given he and his colleagues are keen on racing.
Tickets have gone on sale for the Mounting Yard Marquee and can be purchased at www.countryracing/camperdown or by contacting the club directly on 0400 557 625.
Finn said he expected the marquee to be a sellout on the back of having 300 tickets sold for this year’s event. He encouraged patrons to get in early and secure a spot.
“The committee has been working tirelessly for some months now preparing the venue so that it is in top condition on raceday,” Finn said.
“As well as the Mounting Yard Marquee, the other usual packages will be on sale including the rails umbrella packages, catering and beverage packages and a large range of kids activities.”
The kids’ activities will include Kelly Sports, free backpacks, jumping castles, face painting and the ever-popular live music on the front lawn.
Finn said he was confident the event would again be well supported by locals and others who make the trek to the track on Saturday January 20.
