The Shearwaters brought home silver in the Master 220 (combined rowers age) division at the prestigious competition, held at Lorne beach last Thursday, February 15.

The ASRL attracts top quality teams from all over Australia, making it even more difficult to win a place on the podium.

“Medals are really, really hard to win at the ASRL so to bring home a silver is very special,” Martina Murrihy said.

“Port Fairy finished second behind Tallebudgera, with North Cronulla in third.

“This has been many years in the making. Our crew has been competing together for more than 10 years and has covered thousands of kilometres, training in the sea and the gym and has travelled to every corner of our beautiful country.”

The team comprises 51 year-old Dean Dwyer, Scott Hetherington (56), Greg Dalton (63), Shaun Murrihy (60) and sweep, Paul Buchanan.

In the lead-up to the ASRL event, the team also won gold at the Victorian Championships Masters 220 Division, held at Lorne on Saturday February 10.
