Show and Shine
MOTORING enthusiasts will have the opportunity to get up close with Australian icons when Western Victoria Holden Car Club holds its 11th Show ‘n Shine in Warrnambool this weekend.
The show attracts hundreds of spectators and families each year, who walk through and admire the cars, enjoy the atmosphere and are greeted by car-loving Holden members.
With Holden having left the market, club president Peter Dunn said he hoped this year’s event would be the biggest show yet.
"The show attracts cars from Geelong, Ballarat, Terang, Portland and across south west Victoria,” he said.
“It's a chance for history and car-lovers to meet, reminisce and share stories about the beloved Aussie icon an icon that will continue to remain in Australia’s heart.
“The day is quite a spectacle.
“There will be both stock and modified cars on display and spectators will enjoy the band Amplitude which will be playing on the day, which is always very popular with the spectators.”
This year’s event will raise funds to help put young drivers in the south west behind the wheel.
Proceeds from the gold coin entry will be donated to the Corangamite Learner to P Plate program (L2P) program, which provides driving lessons for young adults who do not have access to an appropriate vehicle or a supervised driver in safe, roadworthy cars with experienced instructors.
The event was initially inaugurated to celebrate the club’s 21st birthday in 2012 and has become an annual pilgrimage for the club’s over 140 members who share the love of the Holden brand.
Club member Ken Plummer said the event attracts in excess of 100 cars but was hoped to see more this year.
“The club consists of members including from Port Campbell, Camperdown, Terang, Noorat and Warrnambool with all range of Holden cars from Australia’s first car, the 48-215 commonly known as the FX Holden, to later model VE-VF Commodores and every model in between,” he said.
“The club secretary Scott Bell is finalising the paint and final assembly on his beautiful 1964 EH Holden ute- it has been a long-term project for over 10 years and the announcement of the ending of the Holden brand in Australia has spurred him on even further.”
The show will be held at Lake Pertobe in Warrnambool on Saturday, 18 March from 10am to 2pm.
A BBQ, coffee van and much more will be available on the day and also jumping castles for the kids to enjoy.
