Patients and staff at the Warrnambool hospital were treated to Christmas carols, gifts and special treats when the Holiday Actors and Dennington Community Association members paid a special visit earlier this week.

Santa and his helper ‘Miss Holly’ joined volunteers from the Dennington Community Association and members of the Holiday Actors to spread some cheer in the wards on Tuesday night.

The community association generously donated around $2,000 worth of toys, gifts, lolly cups, chocolates and drinks as part of the 94th Santa Tour.

Speaking with the Warrnambool Weekly on Tuesday night, group president John Harris said he was excited to participate in the tour.

“The annual Santa tour is a wonderful event and our association is thrilled and privileged to be a part of this,” he said.

“When COVID hit we were unable to tour the wards so the gifts were left at the front door – we’re thrilled to be able to return tonight and hand out these gifts to patients and staff.

“We’re all very fortunate to have such a wonderful facility (the hospital) here in Warrnambool so we’re always keen to do what we can to show our support.”

President of the Holiday Actors (and manager of infection prevention at South West Healthcare) Jenny Lukeis said the young people were excited to be singing at the hospital.

“We have 50 young people involved in our upcoming Spamalot production but unfortunately could only have 15 here to ensure we adhere to density rules,” Ms Lukeis said.

“They were all very excited to be performing tonight and to help spread some Christmas spirit.”

South West Healthcare’s Suzan Morey said the health service and staff were appreciative of the efforts of both the Dennington association and Holiday Actors for their involvement.

“This is a wonderful event and one that we all look forward to each year,” she said.

“To see the smiles on the faces of patients as they listen to carols, see Santa in the hallway and then receive a gift is priceless.”
