O’Connor will join the Vics in next year’s National Netball Championships in Sydney.

The next crop of pathway talent was revealed earlier this week with the announcement of the Victorian 17 and under and 19 and under state teams for the national championships.

The teams of 12 have been named after a selection process since August, where squads of 50 were narrowed down to 25.

The squads have been involved in Netball Victoria’s Elevate program, introducing them to aspects of high performance environments such as strength and conditioning, nutrition, athlete wellbeing and skill development.

Initially, athletes were talent identified at Netball Victoria’s pathway competitions, Association Championships and State Titles, as well as through Netball Victoria’s Talent Academies across the state.

19 and under head coach Adrian Ballantyne said selectors were impressed with the talent pool across the selection process, which again demonstrated the strength of Victoria’s netball pathway.

“Selecting the final 12 was extremely challenging, but we’re confident we’ve landed on a squad that will give us a very strong chance for success at Nationals,” he said.

17 and under head coach Jacinta Todd said for some athletes in the side this would be their first state team selection.

“They’ve all worked incredibly hard and are deserving of their spot, and we look forward to working more closely with them in the lead up to Nationals and in their development in the pathway,” Todd said.

The 19 and under Victorian team includes Holly Adams-Alcock, Mia Aitken, Sahara Ball, Charli Hoey, Piuti Laban, Mia Lavis, Annecy Lyon, Eliza Molino, Eliza Mooney, Georgie O’Brien, Mackenzie O’Dwyer and Ayva Tanfara.

The 17 and under state team includes Kiara Boyd, Camille Brownjohn, Allie Davidson, Sienna De La Sota, Amalani Fauonuku, Abbey Hogg, Cleo McLachlan, Gemma Meadley, Molly Moylan, Alice O’Callaghan, Indi O’Connor and Haleina Tanoi.

The teams will compete at Netball Australia’s National Netball Championships which will be played at Netball Central in Sydney from April 10-16.

They will also compete at Netball Victoria’s Gippsland Showcase in Traralgon on the weekend of February 8 and 9.
