In a thriller at Merrivale last Saturday, the Strikers contained their composure to defeat Dennington by just four runs.

Just 12 runs later fellow opener Nicholas Alberts was caught on 25, with the team struggling at 2/59.

Team-mates Bevan Stokie (15) and Harley McKenzie (29no) were the only others to reach double figures, with Spring Creek finishing the day on 9/131 after 45 overs.

Dennington’s run chase was given an early shake-up, with opener Adam Sell caught on 8 while Josh Barr then fell for one, leaving Dennington at 2/26.

Lower order batsman Terry Beks began gaining momentum at the crease before out lbw on 21, with Hudson Owen, unbeaten on 23, the only other to reach double figures.

After 45 overs, Dennington fell just four runs short, finishing on 9/127.

Spring Creek’s Jackson Hansford was named Player of the Match in recognition of his efforts with the ball, taking 3/7 off nine overs – with his spell including six maidens.
