Strong field contests championships
PLAYERS from across the district took to the Port Fairy golf course last weekend to contest the Western District Golf Association Championships.

A total of 31 men and 23 women contested the 27-hole competition while six men and 22 women entered the 18-hole event (including five juniors).
While tee-off began in light drizzle early morning, the day cleared and provided ideal playing conditions.
It was great to see some of the younger players taking home some of the major prizes.
The winner of the men’s District Champion trophy, named after Marc Leishman, was Heywood’s Jayden McLeod.
Molly O’Brien from Hamilton went one better than last year (when she finished runner-up) and took home the women’s District Champion award.
O’Brien was also the girls’ under 21 champion.
Jayden McLeod was also named the Champion of Champions, qualifying for the award by winning Heywood’s championships.
Clinton Foster from Portland was named the Senior Champion while Warrnambool’s Elijah McLeod was named the boys’ Under 21 Champion.
Many thanks to the Port Fairy Golf Club for hosting the event and helping with the running of the day.
