Team Cox hits the streets
IN what was a bitter-sweet day for Warrnambool’s Leading Senior Constable Graeme Cox on Tuesday, he had the opportunity to share his final shift with daughter, First Constable Steph Cox.
‘Team Cox’ hit the streets together for the first, and final time, this week and both could not be prouder.
After 14 years in the force, Tuesday marked the final day in uniform for LSC Cox while for his proud daughter Steph, it was her final day in a Victorian uniform before she heads north.
Speaking with the Warrnambool Weekly on Tuesday afternoon, LSC Cox said he was feeling a mixed bag of emotions.
“To share this, my final day on the force, with Steph is very special – not too many dads can say they’ve done this,” he said.
“It was fantastic to have her by my side out in the van across Warrnambool today.
“After a 35-year career in the Army, I joined the police force in August 2010 and, at the age of 51, was the oldest in my squad. Since graduating I’ve spent time at Stawell, Horsham and Casterton before joining the team at Warrnambool.”
As a divisional firearms officer LSC Cox has been responsible for undertaking compulsory checks on firearms, gun safes and licences across the region.
He is now enjoying some well-earned long service leave before heading into retirement.
“I’m planning on spending my retirement years playing golf, continuing my voluntary work as commanding officer of the cadet unit at Lake Pertobe and enjoying quality family time,” he said.
Daughter Steph (First Constable Steph Cox) spent three years with the Queensland Police Force before relocating to the Warrnambool station last October.
She now plans to return north after Christmas in the hope of again being stationed at Toowoomba or in a smaller station on the outskirts of the town.
