Time to fish
A NEW program to get kids hooked on fishing has been rolled out to local primary school students.

Member for Western Victoria, Jacinta Ermacora, visited Warrnambool Primary School last Thursday to deliver the ‘Little Angler Kits’ to year six students, encouraging them to get out in the fresh air and try their luck at fishing.
“It was an exciting day and it was wonderful to see all the children so excited and very engaged in the idea of being outside and the personal pride of catching their own fish,” Ms Ermacora said.
“I was very grateful for the warm welcome I received at the school and it was lovely to be able to also meet the new year six leaders.”
The kits include a quality angling rod, a reel with fishing line, tackle box, hooks, swivels and lure – all packed in a light-weight carry case.
To date, 95,000 kits have been delivered to primary students across the state as part of the state government’s $96 million package to further improve recreational fishing, boating, piers and aquaculture.
School principal at Warrnambool Primary, Peter Lee, was pleased to see the students’ enthusiasm.
“This is a great way to get kids outdoors, away from their devices and to learn a healthy, new activity,” Mr Lee said.
