Toy run spreads cheer
CHILDREN from disadvantaged families across the western district can now enjoy a special Christmas thanks to the generosity of locals.
For more than 30 years Warrnambool’s Trevor Warnecke and his wife Bonnie have been running a motorcycle toy run in the town.
“It’s our way of spreading some Christmas cheer and ensuring children who may otherwise not receive any toys on Christmas day, have something under the tree,” Mr Warnecke said.
“The community always gives great support and we collect so many toys it always amazes me.”
While the weather may have cancelled last weekend’s motorcycle ride, from Rafferty’s to Lake Pertobe, a crowd gathered at the lake on Saturday afternoon to enjoy a barbecue and hand over the toys to the Salvation Army’s Christmas cheer coordinator, Chris Philpot.
“Along with a large number of toys, we also received a $2000 donation from the Warrnambool and District Motorcycle Owners Club for which we’re extremely grateful.”
The money will be used to purchase food vouchers for distribution over the festive season.
